All requests for credit must be received by April 30th, 2026 to allow adequate time to apply them to your CutTime account prior to the banquet/the end of the school year. There will be no exceptions to this deadline and this form will close May 1st, 2026.
Have questions, please reach out to the email on the form linked above.
The GO Flags program was created by a GOHSBBA family when Grand Oaks HS opened in 2018. Once the founders' kids were no longer students at GOHS, they passed ownership of GO Flags to the GOHSBBA, who has been running the program since Spring of 2023.
GOHSBBA is 100% responsible for the administration and operations of the GO Flags program. All proceeds from GO Flags (after covering operational expenses) goes back into the program and covers major educational purchases, such as instruments, equipment, transportation, educational contractors and other services that benefit every member of the Band and Guard. Without GO Flags, the GOHSBBA would be forced to raise Fair Share fees, implement numerous fundraising drives or both. In order to ensure that the GOHS Band/Guard program maintains the volunteer base needed to run the GO Flags program, the Directors and Boosters instituted a volunteer commitment. All students will be expected to participate as described below.
All GOHS Band & Guard students are asked to staff TWO flag placement holidays over the course of the year totaling approximately 4 -10 hours per school year. Sign Up Genius links will be shared approxiimately 2 weeks prior to flag placement dates via the Band App, shifts are first come first serve. Please only sign up for a shift if you fully intend to staff both the flag deployment and flag return (two separate weekends).
The 2025-2026 assignments are:
Memorial Day - 5/24/2025 & 5/31/2025 - Assigned to Guard, Trumpets, Flutes and Clarinets
Independence Day - 6/28/2025 & 7/12/2025 - Open/Makeup weekend for anyone who did not fulfill their TWO Volunteer Shifts
Labor Day/Patriots Day - 8/30/2025 & 9/13/2025 - Assigned to Guard, Horns/Mellos, Baritones/Euphoniums, Tubas, Saxophones and Trombones
Veterans Day - 11/8/2025 & 11/15/2025 - Assigned to Trumpets, Flutes, Clarinets, Percussion
Presidents Day - 2/14/2026 & 2/21/2026 - Assigned to Trombones, Percussion, Horns/Mellos, Baritones/Euphoniums, Tubas and Saxophones
The 2026 -2027 School year placements will no longer be assigned to sections, however all sections will still be expected to participate.
*Please note, the volunteer schedule runs two placements "earlier" than the school year/subscription schedule, allowing us to give credit to kids who work their shifts before the May Banquet/Graduation.
Your efforts working GO Flags volunteer shifts financially supports the Band & Guard as a whole, while enabling you to be active member of your larger feeder zone community. In addition, every hour volunteered impacts a large number of GOHS students and the people living in our neighborhoods. We recognize, however, that you and your family lead busy lives, so we have put a few incentive programs in place, in keeping with systems used by other organizations in our school, district and community.
Students who wish to audition for leadership positions within the Band/Guard will be expected to have met their minimum two shift requirement; the Directors will give extra consideration to those who show leadership by volunteering beyond the 2 assigned shifts.
Students who complete two shifts can request a Banquet/CutTime credit if desired. One credit will be provided per student who completes their two individual shifts (see below for important information re: eligibility).
Students who work GO Flags can use their volunteer hours towards credit for other charitable or service organization mandated hours (i.e. NHS, NCL, etcetera).
A full shift includes both flag delivery and flag retrieval.
We will grant 1/2 shift credit to students who make arrangements with other volunteers or via our coordinators to work delivery or retrieval ONLY, but they will need to work 4 half shifts to meet their individual 2 shift assignment.
Two students working the same shift in the same car will each receive 1/2 shift credit vs. a full credit.
If you have two students in your family or work GO Flags shifts with your friends, be certain that you take two routes during your assigned weekend to ensure that both students get 1 shift credit.
Volunteers are verified by having their names listed on Sign Up Genius. Please be certain that your/your student's name is listed on the Sign Up for the shift worked to ensure that they receive credit for their efforts.
We are now asking Locker Duty volunteers to sign up separately for each weekend (flag distribution and pick up/return).
These shifts are highly encouraged for student leaders or students interested in future student leadership; each shift is worth 1/2 credit so be sure to sign up for both distribution and pickup/return separately to get a full GO Flags credit.
You must be in good financial standing with GOHSBBA to receive any CutTime credit.
If you cannot retrieve the flags you placed, you are responsible for finding someone to pick up your flags, do not assume that the GO Flags coordinators will cover your shift for you (see the next section re: no-shows).
When you take a shift and don't show up, you are adding hours of extra work to an already busy weekend for the GO Flags student and parent volunteers who coordinate this program. Our volunteers and the Band/Guard Directors take no-shows seriously.
If you have an emergency or get sick, please try to find a friend to cover your shift, or contact our GO Flags coordinator at the number listed on the Sign Up Genius to ask for help. We will still grant you credit for the portion of the shift you worked if you reach out ahead of time.
If you simply fail to show up for any portion of a shift (delivery or retrieval), the following policies will be put into place:
You will forfeit any credit already earned for that shift (i.e. we will not grant 1/2 shift credit for the portion you did work);
You will not be allowed to work on the next GO Flags placement;
If you no show twice (for an entire delivery and retrieval), you will not be allowed to work at the next two placements; and
If you no show 3 times, you will no longer be allowed to work GO Flags placements
This will make you ineligible for future GOHS Band/Guard leadership positions!
This policy is in place regardless of the reason for your no-show or past history of GO Flag program involvement; when in doubt, do not sign up for the shift in the first place and/or contact our coordinators to let them know that you have a conflict.
Students who fill more than 2 shifts in one year cannot ask for additional Banquet credits (one credit per child per two full shifts worked). Any additional shifts can be used for fulfillment of volunteer hours mandated by other organizations in the school and community, ask the adults working the locker to sign off on any required volunteer logs.
No. This program encourages a commitment to volunteerism only. Students and their families are not required to sell GO Flags subscriptions and they will not be incentivized in any way to do so.
